Chinese Shadow Puppets at Seattle Art Museum

Nov. 7, 2013, 7-9pm at the Seattle Art Museum, Stimson auditorium

Grant Hayter Menzies speaks on Pauline Benton, who learned shadow puppetry in Beijing, went on to tour in the U.S. and became a champion of this cultural tradition. Held in connection with his new book Shadow Woman: The Extraordinary Career of Pauline Benton.

The evening includes film clips of the Red Gate Shadow Theater with composer Lou Harrison, and an introduction to Chinese shadow puppets from the SAM collection by Mary Hirsch.

Masks and Puppets at the Burke Museum

Greetings from the Burke Museum! We have some exciting events coming up at the Burke that we hope you can attend! We are now offering special gallery activities every week. This month, discover masks and puppets from around the world. On October 27, learn about NW Coast and Yup’ik masks with Robin K. Wright, Burke curator of Native American Art and Justin McCarthy, Ethnology Collections Outreach Coordinator. We hope that you share this event with your friends as well as those interested in masks and puppets!.

Masterpieces exhibit from Valentinetti Puppet Museum

I would love to take this opportunity to invite all of the Puppeteers of Puget Sound members and their families and friends to come to Bremerton to see our newly installed exhibit “Masterpieces from the Collection.” If you have never visited the Valentinetti Puppet Museum in Bremerton, you are in for a treat. Currently the Museum has over 1300 pieces from all over the world which have been given to the Museum from a wide variety of donors, domestic and foreign.

Museum Hours: Wednesday through Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm. The Museum is also open for Bremerton’s First Friday Art Walk,
May 4th, 5-8 pm. If you all would like to arrange for a private tour at some other date please contact me and see what we can arrange.
