Kyle Loven presents “Retraces”

Here is the next exciting event coming to the puppet community in the new year!

Kyle Loven presents
Directed by Kyle Loven

January 7-10, 2016 at 12th Ave Arts Mainstage Theater

Kyle Loven returns with the premiere of Retraces after previous sold-out runs of his acclaimed work, my dear Lewis and Loss Machine. Retracespremieres with support from the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
About the Show:
Inspired by conspiracy theories and ham radio broadcasts, Retraces follows a skeptical man who works to decode the everyday conspiracies happening around him. Through a combination of projected miniature replicas, live sound, and scenic puppeteering, multiple performers construct his small town environments around him. As the conspiracy unfolds, three manifestations of the man cross paths and overlap in a race to connect the dots. This dark piece blends theater, dance, puppetry, music, and visual art to explore how we as humans and as audience members process information to arrive at our personal beliefs.
“Loven borders on genius.” The Times Square Chronicles

Since the 1960’s, this troupe has been active with social and political spectacles using giant puppets and masks.  Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Bread & Puppet brings one of their most important works to the West Coast with only 2 performances in Seattle.
“Humans wage war against each other and their own mother:  Nature.  Essentially war is the ferocious stupidity that insists on the application of brutality for problem solution, whether the brutality is directed at humans or mountaintops. “FIRE” is a chapel against war, where you sit down to witness the effects of war while contemplating its opposite.”
Peter Schumann, founder of Bread & Puppet

If cost is an issue, please contact the puppet center directly (not the ticketing service) because we don’t want that to deter anyone from being able to attend.  Please note, this performance is not intended for young children and is not part of the season subscription.

Jack and the Giant
“Jack and the Beanstalk” is based on an old English version of the story. Jack Spriggins trades his family’s cow for five colored beans. His long-suffering mother tosses the beans and they magically grow as tall as the sky. An amazing adventure ensues when Jack climbs to the top of the beanstalk and becomes a slave to the Cyclops Wife of the Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum Giant. A golden hen, a magic singing harp, a green fairy, and a fool add to the musical merriment.

MCM Bed Bouncing Time 2
“Merry Chris Mouse” is an original heartwarming story of sharing at holiday time.  A brown mouse family, homeless on Christmas Eve, moves into the wall of a child’s playroom. Funny woman

“The Funny Woman Who Lost Her Dumpling” is based on a Japanese story.  A funny woman follows a rice dumpling down a hole and it bounces into another world. Following a road, she meets 3 statues of Jizo, who each warn her of danger. Unfortunately, an Oni (horned ogre) finds her and takes her captive. The funny woman uses humor and her wits to adapt to her changing situations. Funded in part with a Family Grant from the Jim Henson Foundation.
Brother Coyote_ SIster Fox_Cleotilde 2 chicken ,
“Brother Coyote and Sister Fox”, is a delightful and humorous adaptation of a Mexican folktale.
