Barnstorm: The Cabaret Re-Imagined Uses Puppetry to Discuss Current Social Issues

Barnstorm: The Cabaret Re-Imagined strives to engender a return to the style of 19th-century cabarets, which created a space in which to open dialogue between artists and citizens about important issues. In this spirit, Barnstorm has invited artists to do so by utilizing their own unique disciplines. One such discipline is puppetry, the particular medium of artist Jonathan Nawn. In his piece, Nawn approaches current social issues aided by a plush pig puppet. Those interested in attending can buy their tickets here.

Barnstorm is an artist-run, volunteer-operated event in Seattle that seeks to create open dialogue about issues relevant to our times. The artists represented there will approach a range of subject matters from a variety of disciplines including visual art, kabuki theater, dance, and much more. All of this will take place in a new Belltown arts venue, built from the ground up, which offers wine, food, and comfortable couches. Find out more about Barnstorm at their website.

Thistle Theatre presents: Quest for Planet X (the space musical)

Thistle Theatre presents: Quest for Planet X (the space musical)

From earth to moon and to the far reaches of the Galaxy…take a flight into the future. A strange chrysalis-like growth has started to form on Earth. If the space team can’t reach Planet X for the antidote, the Earth will be doomed. Silly robots on a recycling space station, an evil Queen and “spacey” black light scenes combine to create an out-o-this world puppetry experience!

Brian Stabile, Lisa A. Haslbauer, Gina Wilhelm and Ben Burris are the puppeteers in the production directed by Jean Enticknap. Enticknap wrote the original story with Dan Nelson, and Sue Ennis and Frank Cox wrote the original music and songs. The puppets were designed and built by Brian Kooser and Jean Enticknap.
